Whether you go for the glaze, crave cream fillings, or hunt down the honey dips, Baltimore, Maryland, delights residents and visitors with dynamic doughnut offerings. Explore some of the top five best spots in Charm City to pick up a dozen or more doughnut delights.

BLONDIE’S DOUGHNUTS

When Michelle Diggs turned a passion for baking into a career, little did she know that she would be creating a sought-after baked goods business. Inspired by family recipes, Blondie’s Doughnuts uses a signature brioche dough recipe that produces some of the freshest doughnuts you’ve ever tasted. In addition, Blondie’s also uses all-natural ingredients in its infused glazes, custards, creams, and spice glazes for doughnuts.

Diggs’ interest in collecting vintage Black memorabilia has inspired Blondie’s menu of filled doughnuts. As she explains on her website, “Inspired by and named after the glamorous icons of yesterday, our ooey, gooey ‘Bombshell’ doughnuts are stuffed by hand and filled to perfection with scratch-made creams, custards, and curds.” You’ll find varieties such as the Lovely Lena, a Nutella-filled doughnut, and the Jazzy Josie, a lemon drop doughnut named in honor of legendary entertainer Josephine Baker.

Seasonal specialties feature distinctive flavors such as strawberry shortcake, lemon meringue, maple bourbon, peach, pistachio cream, and raspberry swirl.

Blondie’s sells its delicious doughnuts through its mobile bakery, a food trailer named Sassafras that travels to various locations each week throughout Baltimore and Maryland. You can also find Blondie’s baked goods at the Cross Street Farmers Market in Baltimore. Preorders are strongly encouraged.

Pickup Locations: The Commissary at CVille Junction, 1715 Edmonson Ave., Catonsville, every Friday from 9 a.m. to noon; Cross Street Farmers Market, 1065 S. Charles St., Baltimore, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon; Guinness Open Gate Brewery, 5001 Washington Blvd., Halethorpe, opens Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. Doughnuts are available to order in the beer garden.

DIABLO DOUGHNUTS

Once based in Fells Point, Diablo Doughnuts now calls the Brooklyn building in South Baltimore its home base for all things doughnuts. Unforgettable varieties have equally unforgettable names, such as the Panty Dropper, a maple-glazed doughnut topped with crisp bacon slices, and the Captain Chesapeake, a doughnut glazed with a blend of caramel and Old Bay seasoning.

Since Diablo Doughnuts is open Friday through Sunday only, you’ll want to place your order online to be sure you get the doughnuts you want. Customers must pick up their orders by 11 a.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday. Are you expecting a crowd for weekend brunch? The doughnut kit gives you a baker’s dozen of Diablo’s yeast-raised doughnuts with customer favorite toppings and containers of caramel, chocolate, and vanilla glazes.

FENWICK BAKERY

Celebrating more than 100 years of baking in Baltimore, Fenwick Bakery carries on the culinary legacy of its founders Ernest Uebersax and Alvena Buttner. The two started their bakery, the E. Uebersax Bakery, which would eventually become Fenwick Bakery.

Today, the Fenwick Bakery team carries on the baking legacy in the loaves of bread, cakes, cookies, pies, and more that greet you at its Parkville shop.
