WESTERN MARYLAND RAIL TRAIL

Traveling through Allegany and Washington counties, the Western Maryland Rail Trail offers picturesque views of the Potomac River, trailheads in quaint towns like Hancock, and gorgeous mountain terrain as a backdrop. With more than 26 miles, visitors have plenty of options for those seeking leisurely outdoor activities. From biking and mountain biking to hiking and rollerblading, there’s something to do for everyone.

GWYNNS FALLS TRAIL

A favorite among historians, the Gwynns Falls Trail is 15+ miles of trail running through several of Baltimore City’s most historical and unique neighborhoods and parks. The trail also boasts scenic views of the cityscape and waterways, fishing spots, and designated picnic areas. Popular activities include birdwatching, biking, and hiking.

TRIMPER’S RIDES

One of Maryland’s oldest amusement parks, Trimper’s Rides has provided thrills and fun to visitors since 1890. Located on Ocean City’s Boardwalk, Trimper’s offers more than 35 rides, attractions, games, and a healthy twist on carnival food. With so many options at your fingertips, Trimper’s is a great way to enjoy the sun and the ocean breeze.

Hours: Saturdays, 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Sundays, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Price: Mega Pass, allows visitors to ride all rides for the day – $38.84

CHESAPEAKE BEACH WATER PARK

Frequently voted as one of Maryland’s best water parks, Chesapeake Beach Water Park has everything you need to spend the day in the sun. An option for those who want sun and water but are not interested in the beach, the water park caters to both people looking for a leisurely activity to those looking for some thrills. Check out more than a dozen water attractions and activities, rent a cabana, or have a meal at the Beachcomber Grille, the park’s full-service restaurant.

  • Kids 2 years old and under are free.
  • Visitors 48” or taller: $58.75.
  • Visitors under 48”: $54.00. 

ASSATEAGUE STATE PARK

Boasting the title of Maryland’s only oceanfront state park, Assateague State Park is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. Offering hiking, kayaking, campsites, boating, and sandy beaches, the options are endless for a day in the sun. Add the picturesque views of the coastline to the beauty of the herds of wild horses that make the park home, the park is a great way to take in nature at its finest.

  • Day-use Admission Fees: $5/person.

ADVENTURE PARK AT SANDY SPRING

If you’re looking for thrills, physical activity, and nature, the Adventure Park at Sandy Spring is for you. The largest human-made outdoor climbing park in the world, Adventure Park has more than 250 climbing and zipping activities.  Test your skills with one of the 15 obstacle courses and difficulty levels that includes ziplining, rope crossings, and platform climbing.

  • Child: (ages 5-6): $16-20.

NORTH BEACH

For beach lovers who prefer to sunbathe, swim in the ocean, fish, and make sandcastles, North Beach is the destination for you. Open daily, the beach is also a great option for those who enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding with onsite rental facilities. When you’ve had your fill of sun and sand, the North Beach boardwalk offers beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay.

Hours: 8 a.m. until dusk, Daily

Price: 

  • Adults (ages 12-54): $25.00.
  • Children (ages 3-11): $10.00.
  • Military/Seniors (ages 54+): $9.00.
  • Children 2 and under are free.

Note: Visitors must purchase a beach pass.

FUN HAVEN MINI GOLF

Are you looking for an affordable family-friendly outdoor activity to occupy the kids for a few hours? Then La Plata’s Fun Haven Golf’s Mini-Golf Course is for you with 18 holes and a kid-friendly course. The driving range is available for reservation with clubs and balls available for rent.
