Koons White Marsh Chevrolet

May 19, 2022

The Chevy Equinox is a popular crossover thanks to its ample cargo storage, comfortable seating in both rows, and extensive infotainment features. Chevy gave the Equinox a cosmetic update for 2022, with a sportier front end ensuring that this vehicle continues to compete well in the compact SUV class. Most auto observers expect Chevy to stick with its winning formula for 2023, with few new additions to the Equinox anticipated. Here’s a look at what the 2023 Equinox will offer.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

Like its 2022 predecessor, the 2023 Equinox will be powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s capable of putting out 170 horsepower. The power train will be completed by a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but you can choose to upgrade the Equinox to all-wheel drive.

The 2023 Equinox is expected to be released during the summer of 2023. We don’t have official fuel economy numbers yet, but they’re likely to be similar to those achieved in the 2022 model. A 2022 Equinox with front-wheel drive managed 26 mpg on city roads and 31 mpg on the highway. Opting for an all-wheel-drive model reduces these numbers by 1 mpg for city and highway driving.

All-wheel drive could be a good choice for you if you plan on pushing the Equinox’s towing capacity for a camping trip or weekend out of town. This compact crossover can tow up to 1,500 pounds, which is enough for a small camper or modest-sized boat.

CARGO AND SEATING

The Equinox will continue to feature one of the roomiest cargo areas in the class for the 2023 model. It has about 30 cubic feet of space behind the rear row of seats and 63.9 cubic feet with the second row folded flat. If you regularly load up your Chevy with large amounts of cargo, you may want to consider the optional power liftgate or hands-free power liftgate for ease of access.

As for seating, the Equinox has adult-friendly accommodation in both rows. There’s plenty of legroom and headroom in the rear row for two adults or three kids to sit in comfort. If you need to install kids’ seats, you’ll find two complete sets of LaTCH connectors for the outward seats in the rear row.

In its standard setup, the 2023 Equinox will be fitted with cloth upholstery. Several upgrades are on offer, including leather upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s and passenger’s seats, heated rear seats, and heated and ventilated front seats.

INFOTAINMENT AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE TECHNOLOGY

The Equinox’s infotainment system stands out due to the wealth of technology on offer and its easy-to-use features. You can either get a 7-inch or 8-inch entertainment screen. In the base setup, you’ll have a six-speaker stereo, but you can upgrade to a seven-speaker audio system in the higher trims.

The Equinox has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features, which sets it apart from many of its rivals. These features will make it easier for you to link your phone to your crossover’s infotainment system. Other attractive infotainment features include four USB ports and BlueTooth connectivity. Two optional infotainment offerings worth considering are the navigation system and wireless device charging.

This Chevy is also equipped with a wide range of tech features to help you and your passengers stay safe on the road. Standard features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. When you hit highway speeds, you can take advantage of the lane departure warning and automatic high-beam headlights to make your driving experience easier.

Another popular safety feature is Chevy’s Teen Driver, which allows you to restrict how your vehicle can be used. You can impose speed limits or an upper limit for the Equinox’s stereo volume to help young family members learn to drive safely.

Several optional safety features are available. These include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and a safety alert seat, which alerts the driver to potential hazards by vibrating the seat. The surround-view parking camera, and front and rear parking sensors can make it easier to maneuver your Equinox into a tight parking spot.

TRIMS

The Equinox had four trims in its lineup for 2022, and it’s expected that they’ll carry over for 2023. These trims are LS, LT, RS, and Premier. A full redesign of the Equinox is expected for the 2024 model year, including the presentation of an all-electric Equinox.

The starting LS trim includes keyless entry and a manual liftgate. You can opt to add a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The LT trim offers several optional upgrades that you can’t get in the LS. These include a sunroof, the larger infotainment screen, dual-zone climate control, and the navigation system. The power-adjustable driver’s seat that was optional in the LS comes standard with the LT.

The RS trim is the best choice for those of you who enjoy a sportier look. The Equinox’s standard 17-inch wheels are changed out for 19-inch alloy wheels. In addition, black exterior accents and black upholstery with red trim give this Chevy a unique appearance. Other standard features with this trim include heated front seats, remote start, and a power liftgate.

The top-of-the-range Premier is appropriately fitted with leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and the larger infotainment screen. You also benefit from 18-inch wheels and a hands-free power liftgate. Several optional upgrades are offered, such as ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger’s seat, and heated rear seats.
