Local shop owners have a range of venues for you to enjoy traditional and modern twists on the classic beverage. With delectable food to accompany every sip, we’ve put together a list of tearooms around the White Marsh area so you can take a drive before relaxing and sharing a steaming pot of tea with friends and family. We also share some of White Marsh’s best refreshment stops that feature handcrafted to-go teas perfect for your car’s cupholder. 

EMMA’S TEA SPOT

Emma’s Tea Spot offers an astounding variety of tea-time delights including finger sandwiches, or sarnies as they call them, homemade pastries, and sweet or savory scones. You’ll have a hard time choosing from the delectable afternoon tea menus that even feature a selection for young “nippers.” Arrive hungry with room to try the luxurious Queen Be Tea, which features a cup of soup, your choice of sandwich, scones, fruit, tarts, petit fours, and a pot of your favorite tea.  

Owned and operated by Britain-born Emma and her husband Ben, Emma’s Tea Spot also serves local and organic produce whenever possible, providing guests with a smattering of breakfast and lunch offerings based on traditional English fare like the Ploughman’s lunch of cheese and fruit selections to homemade quiches and salads.

TEA BY TWO

Tea by Two‘s tea menu boasts over 80 varieties of white, green, oolong, black and herbal blends. With flavors like Empress of Japan, a citrus blend of green and black tea, or Lavender Mist, with rooibos and coconut, you’ll have to regularly trek to this charming spot to taste all of your favorite flavors. Choose sweet and savory delights from their classic food offerings, including daily quiches, tea sandwiches, and scones with cream and curd. 

Enjoy a special they offer called lunch hour tea, which is served Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a delicious meal served 10 minutes after your arrival. A call ahead is required on the day of. Order a celebration saucer to commemorate someone special with a cake served in a teacup you can take home as a memento.

TEA TROLLEY

Situated just on the border of Maryland and Pennsylvania in a quaint Victorian home on Main Street, the Tea Trolley offers a traditional tea room experience. Try the full afternoon tea for a savory lunch of soup and finger sandwiches accompanied by a selection of desserts and a scone with jam, curd, and cream. Children 12 and under can enjoy the Teddy Bear Tea with sandwiches and sweets to suit a young palate. 

Tea Trolley accommodates private parties in charming rooms adjoining the main dining area. With special events like Mother’s Day Tea throughout the year, Tea Trolley is worth the stop as you cruise the state line. They also cater afternoon tea delivered to your home or other chosen venue for any special occasion.

CUPLES TEA HOUSE

Dubbed an “urban tea experience” by owners Lynnette and Eric, Cuples Tea House is a modern tea shop and cafe nestled in downtown Baltimore. With a tea tasting bar and over 50 loose-leaf varieties to choose from, you’ll find classic tea room elements with a new focus on inspiring a healthy community and creating a place to slow down, sip and discover the benefits of your perfect cup. 

Cuples Tea House offers a grab-n-go food menu featuring tasty indulgences like sweet potato scones with pecans and maple glaze or a Southern Caesar Salad with kale made from fresh, local ingredients. They also offer ideas for tea pairings if you choose to enjoy a bite.

PILLION TEA

Another artisan tea room in the heart of Baltimore, Pillion Tea features a wide selection of loose-leaf teas and herbal tisanes sold by the ounce. Their unique, curated selection of matcha (powdered green tea) and tea cakes offer tea lovers an authentic taste in every cup. In-house beverages include brewed teas, tea lattes, and specialty seasonal drinks. Enthusiasts will appreciate their variety of exceptional teas like oolong, pu’er, yellow, and white, which can be challenging to find in stores and cafes.

Pillion Tea also serves fresh goodies from local bakeries with gluten-free and vegan options. Try their delicious offerings like savory Danish pastries stuffed with carrots, spring onions, and ricotta cheese or sweets like vegan dark cocoa sponge cake. For a quick cup of boba, fruity teas, tea lattes, or smoothies featuring sweet tea-based flavors, head to Chatime. The extensive menu offers hundreds of flavor combinations made with fresh ingredients. Anytime is “chatime” with hot or iced beverages served in to-go cups for sipping in-store or on the road. Try a handcrafted milk tea like hazelnut chocolate milk or a fruity blend like kumquat or passion fruit with green and back teas.
