BOTTOMS UP BAGELS

2713 Greenmount Ave. in Baltimore

This small bagel shop prepares handmade and authentic New Jersey-style bagels that are boiled. Owners Joan Kanner and Michelle Bond began Bottoms Up Bagels in 2015 after spending several years selling their food all over town. After looking for a more permanent location for three years, they settled on this brick-and-mortar storefront in June 2020. You can still pick up their bagels on Saturday mornings at Fells Point Farmers Market, which is just down the road from their location, as well as a half dozen local grocery stores and coffee shops.

The women strive to bring classic flavors to customers whether that includes their hand-rolled bagels, house-cured lox, or specialty cream cheeses. Popular bagel flavors include pumpernickel, Old Bay, and cinnamon raisin. For something heartier, order one of the sandwiches such as the Jersey Brekkie with a fried egg and Taylor ham, or the Loxed Up with house-cured salmon lox and green onion cream cheese.

GREG’S BAGELS

You can also opt for a meat or fish sandwich including the Taste of India Sandwich, which has curried chicken salad, mango, raisins, almonds, tandoori paste, and veggie cream cheese.

ROLAND PARK BAGELS

500 W. Cold Spring Ln. in Baltimore

Serving bagels and sandwiches, Roland Park Bagels is a must-visit if you’re in the Baltimore area and looking for a variety of vegan and vegetarian options. Its bagels are boiled and baked fresh daily and its vegan choices are clearly marked. Top your bagel with one of its specialty cream cheeses including strawberry, veggie, or cinnamon raisin. Order a breakfast or deli sandwich, which includes bagels and several different choices of protein, vegetables, and vegan cheeses. To wash down your bagel, try a drink from their espresso bar.

THB BAGELRY & DELI

3301 Boston St. Suite 106 in Baltimore

When four young Italian cousins, who grew up in the restaurant industry, tasted authentic bagels in a bagel shop in Towson, they wanted to bring that passion and love of food to their own customers. They opened their original location in Towson in 1999 and the second in Canton in 2001. They make their food from scratch daily using the finest ingredients, so their bagels are never frozen. Choose among more than a dozen bagel varieties including wheat everything, blueberry, garlic, cinnamon raisin, and plain twist. They also offer 10 different types of cream cheeses.

UBER BAGELS AND DELI

49 E. Padonia Road in Lutherville Timonium

Native New Yorker John Nocher complained for years about not being able to get a good bagel in Maryland, so in 2010 he opened a little bagel shop in Ocean City. He opened another Uber Bagels and Deli location in Severna Park in 2017 and this one in Lutherville Timonium in 2019. People come from all over to enjoy hearty and creative breakfast and lunch sandwiches prepared on bagels made from scratch.

Choose among more than a dozen varieties of bagels including rosemary sea salt, chocolate chip, and whole wheat everything. Flavored cream cheese options are also numerous and include garlic and herb, funfetti, sundried tomato, and honey walnut. For breakfast, try Harry’s Crabby Patty, which is an Old Bay bagel with egg, sausage, American cheese, and crab spread. For lunch, consider the Powerhouse, which has lettuce, tomato, avocado, sprouts, cucumber, Muenster cheese, and Parmesan dressing. You can also create your own sandwich and choose among dozens of deli meats, cheeses, and toppings.

THE YUMMERY

11565 Philadelphia Road

If you’re patient and only have a craving for bagels on Fridays, The Yummery is the place for you. Although it’s known more for its all-occasion custom cakes and cupcakes, this establishment serves fresh-baked bagels on Fridays until they sell out. Start your day off right with a plain, cheese, or everything bagel. For a little more protein, turn your bagel into a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. You can also order made-to-order coffee drinks made with Zeke’s coffee.
