CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 SAFETY FEATURES

The Chevy Silverado is one of the most popular pickup trucks on the market. One great feature that sets it apart from other vehicles in this category is safety features. In this blog post, we will discuss some of these features and how they can help you stay safe while driving your Chevrolet Silverado 1500. 1. Lane Departure Warning The lane departure warning system can help you avoid a potential collision or accident with a simple touch of a button. If the vehicle starts to drift from its current lane without the turn signal on, this feature will let you know by blinking one of the exterior lights. This same light also lets other drivers on the road know that you are aware of their presence. It's like having an extra set of eyes on the road. 2. Front Collision Alert This feature is designed to indicate when your vehicle approaches another one too quickly, usually with a red light or flashing symbol coming up on the display screen. 6 FUN WAYS TO SPEND THE DAY IN MARYLAND

While Maryland may be small compared to bigger states like Texas or California, it still offers plenty of fun activities and things to do. So whether you want to go somewhere special with your partner, listen to music, or take your dog on an adventure, check out these six exciting things to do around Maryland. GO SAILING ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY One of the favorite things for locals and visitors in Maryland is to sail in the Chesapeake Bay. You can rent your own sailboat and hoist the sails yourself, or if you want a relaxing or educational sailing experience, book a tour with one of the many sailing companies that take you out on the bay. Learn about the history and importance of the Chesapeake Bay on a history tour, take your date on a sunset sail cruise, or take a boat that lets you go swimming in secluded coves. Here is a list of resources for you to find the perfect Chesapeake Bay sailing adventure. EAT AN ICE CREAM CONE ALONG OCEAN CITY BOARDWALK Take a little weekend getaway and head over to Ocean City to explore this fun seaside town. While you're in Ocean City, take time to stroll along one of the best boardwalks in the nation to shop, eat ice cream, and people watch. As you walk, skate, or ride a bike along the 3-mile classic wooden boardwalk, you'll pass by the sandy beach looking out over the Atlantic Ocean. The kids will get a kick out of the carousel built in 1902, scream with pure joy as they fly up and down the roller coaster, and have fun playing arcade games. Then, after so much excitement, have the family cool down by stopping at one of the many places to get ice cream, or for more tasty treats, get some caramel popcorn, cotton candy, or hot funnel cakes. After such an exciting day, stop by one of the seafood restaurants to enjoy Maryland crab cakes, wood-fired pizza, or a refreshing salad filled with seafood. Then, rest up for the evening because during the summer, you'll find lots of free family activities along the Ocean City Boardwalk. VISIT THE NATIONAL AQUARIUM See what underwater life is like when you visit the National Aquarium located at 501 E. Pratt St. in Baltimore. The aquarium is home to thousands of species from all over the world, not just the ones that live underwater. You can see birds from tropical rain forests, amphibians that survive on land and in the water, and even colorful snakes. In addition, of course, the aquarium has hundreds of fish species from temperate seas as well as ice-cold waters. Book a specialty tour to get up and close with some of the aquarium's animals and sea life. See how the dolphin trainers work with these whimsical sea creatures, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the shark tanks, or let the kids participate in a supervised sleepover. When it's time to refuel after seeing so many exciting exhibits, have lunch at one of the inside cafes, or take your food to eat at one of the outside picnic tables. It's easy getting caught up on all of your holiday shopping when you visit the National Aquarium Gift Shops. Pick up souvenirs, educational books, beautiful jewelry, or even housewares to brighten your home. SEE BALTIMORE FROM THE AIR Thrilling, exciting, and awe-inspiring is the best way to describe a Baltimore Helicopter Sightseeing Tour. You can choose a short 12-to-15-minute ride or a longer ride that lasts 25 to 30 minutes. As you soar through the sky, you can see what the Inner Harbor, Mount Vernon, and the Chesapeake Bay look like from a birds-eye perspective. You get to learn about some of Baltimore's historical sites and interesting facts from the narrated tour, and to make the trip extra special, book one of the helicopter rides that includes dinner. After your fantastic ride through the skies of Baltimore, you can have a fabulous dinner at one of Baltimore's finest restaurants nearby. To find out more about scenic Baltimore helicopter rides, check out this list of resources. TAP YOUR FEET AT THE MARYLAND IRISH FESTIVAL If you're a fan of Irish music, you'll love the Maryland Irish Music Festival, held annually on the second weekend in November. This Irish celebration offers a wide variety of Irish music, dance performances, food vendors, Irish beer, and plenty of arts and crafts booths. You and your family can learn about Irish history through the Speaker Series and the cultural and historical displays and exhibits. The kids can feel like they're in a fairy tale with bouncy castles and kid-specific games and activities. Have a fun day listening to Irish music and feasting on traditional Irish food at the annual Irish Music Festival held at the Maryland State Fair. You can find the fairgrounds at 2200 York Road in Lutherville-Timonium. TAKE YOUR DOG OUT ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY Because Maryland is known for its superior boating excursions, why not let your furry friend enjoy getting out on the water with you? Except for special events and private charters, you can bring your dog for free on most Watermark Cruises. During the summer, the dogs can enjoy the cruise in the air-conditioned inside seating area, and the friendly staff will even bring your dog water. Be sure to take lots of photos of you and your dog out on a boat in the Chesapeake Bay so you can remember the wonderful experience. CHEVY SILVERADO 3500, 2500, AND 1500: WHICH IS BEST FOR ME?

Not all pickup trucks are the same, and Chevrolet rises above other manufacturers' trucks with the Silverado lineup. The 1500, 2500, and 3500 all have the same underpinnings, but Chevy designed each one with a different purpose in mind. If you want to find out more about buying or leasing a Silverado in the Baltimore area, we can help you decide which one is right for you. Here's a quick comparison to give you an idea of what you can get with each model and what the 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD are all capable of. THE CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 The Silverado 1500 is a versatile half-ton pickup truck and the smallest in the lineup. For the 2022 model year, it received some significant updates to its cabin features and infotainment technology. The dashboard has a new look, and many of the cabin materials have been upgraded for a more upscale look. The engine lineup for the Silverado 1500 includes four powertrains. You can choose from the following: A 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It generates 310 horsepower and gets 420 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard with the Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, the LT, and the RST with the double cab. A 5.3-liter V-8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It generates 355 horsepower and gets 383 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard with the Trail Boss, the LTZ, and the High Country and is optional for the Work Truck, the RST, and the LT. A 6.2-liter V-8 gas powertrain with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It generates 420 horsepower and gets 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard with the ZR2 and is optional for the Custom Trail Boss, the LT Trail Boss, the RST, the LTZ, and the High Country. A 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It generates 277 horsepower and gets 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine is optional for the LT, the LT Trail Boss, the LTZ, and the High Country. The 2022 Silverado 1500 will come with Chevy's Super Cruise hands-free driving technology if you have the High Country trim. The rest of the 1500 lineup comes standard with safety technologies such as forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, an automatic high beam headlight system, and lane-keep assist. A new 13.4-inch touch screen sits in the middle of the dashboard of this truck, and it comes with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Chevy's latest infotainment system with Google voice assistant and the Google app store. THE CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD Step up to the Silverado 2500, and you get into Heavy Duty territory. The latest version of the 2500 offers the Multi-Flex tailgate for all trim levels, and a power-adjustable driver's seat will become available for the Custom trim. The engine lineup for the Silverado 2500 includes two engines, and both are available for any of the trim levels. They are: A 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It generates 401 horsepower and gets 464 pound-feet of torque. A 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It generates 445 horsepower and gets 910 pound-feet of torque. These engines provide the Silverado with impressive towing capabilities. It can tow up to 14,500 pounds with a conventional hitch and the gas engine and up to 18,500 pounds with a conventional hitch and the diesel engine. Add a gooseneck hitch and a fifth wheel, and the diesel engine can tow up to 18,500 pounds. Silverado drivers in the Elliot City area can choose from the WT trim, the Custom, LT, LTZ, and the High Country trim levels with the 2500HD. Some stand out features include: Power-adjustable trailering mirrors on the Custom and above. Chevy's EZ Lift tailgate on the LT. Optional Multi-Flex tailgate with six different functions designed to help load, unload, access the cargo bed, and create a work surface. THE CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500HD The Silverado 3500HD also sees some updates for the 2022 model year. All trims are now eligible for the Multi-Flex tailgate, and now you can get power-adjustable seats as an option for the Custom trim. The 3500HD has the same engine lineup as the 2500. It includes: A 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It generates 401 horsepower and gets 464 pound-feet of torque. A 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It generates 445 horsepower and gets 910 pound-feet of torque. Under the hood of the 3500, these engines provide even more towing power than they do with the 2500. When equipped with a conventional hitch and the diesel engine, it can tow up to 20,000 pounds, and with a gooseneck and fifth wheel, the 3500 can tow up to 36,000 pounds. The 3500 comes in the same trim levels as the 2500, and each model has the same features. Other notable features you can find on the 3500 and the 2500 include: An advanced trailering system with 15 different camera views, including four available hitch views and six driving views. Advanced driver-assist features, including a head-up display, a digital rearview camera, forward collision warning with mitigation, a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-path alert, parking sensors, and lane-departure warning. The infotainment system in the 3500 starts with a 7-inch touch-screen display in the lower-end models, with an 8-inch touch screen in the mid- and high-level trims. Navigation comes standard with the High Country and is optional for the LTZ. Wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard with the High Country and LTZ and are optional for the LT. THREE IMPORTANT REASONS TO KEEP PANIC AT BAY WHEN YOUR VEHICLE SLIDES ON AN ICY ROAD

Few things incite panic like a seemingly uncontrollable slide across an icy road. Countless White Marsh, MD drivers react to loss of control by engaging in actions that only make it harder to bring these terrifying events to an end. At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we're committed to helping locals weather the challenges of the winter season. That's why we're sharing three reasons to keep panic at bay when your vehicle starts sliding. Your First Instincts Aren't Likely to Help Whenever drivers experience loss of control their first instinct is to slam on the brakes. Bringing a vehicle to a complete stop seems like the best way to avert disaster. On an ice-covered surface, however, braking hard isn't going to help. The momentum of your vehicle's wheels is going to be the most effective thing for bringing your car back under control. You'll Need to Make Calculated Movements You also want to avoid jerking the steering wheel to bring yourself out of a turn. The direction in which your car is sliding is the same direction in which you'll need to turn. Moreover, you should only make a slight adjustment with your steering wheel rather than nervously over-correcting. The Goal Is to Regain Control When drivers panic, they're prone to taking actions to undo slides rather than bring them under control. Once a slide happens, accept that you'll have to correct your course and that you may even veer out of your lane or wind up on the side of the road. Slide correction is a mitigation tactic for minimizing the damages of these events. Once loss of control occurs, trying to aggressively return to your starting position will often cause far more harm than good. Click Here to View Our New Chevrolet Inventory

CHEVY BOLT EUV VS BOLT EV

If you're shopping for a fuel-efficient vehicle in White Marsh, Maryland, you may want to check out the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet. These two vehicles operate exclusively on electricity, which eliminates the need to go to the gas station. Although they're similar in many ways, they have distinct differences that may make you prefer one of them over the other. Take a look at this detailed comparison between the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV to determine which model is right for you. TRIM LEVELS The main difference between the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and the 2022 Chevrolet EUV is that they compete in different segments. The Bolt EV is a subcompact hatchback, while the Bolt EUV is a subcompact SUV. If you decide to buy the Chevy Bolt EV, you have two trim levels to choose from: the 1LT and the 2LT. The Chevy Bolt EUV, on the other hand, is available in three trims: LT, Premier, and Launch Edition. EXTERIOR While they share many exterior design elements, the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Chevrolet Bolt EUV are easily distinguishable from one another. With its two-tiered headlights, black lower body cladding, and floating rear roof pillars, the Bolt EV expresses the robustness of a crossover to a certain extent. However, it also has a sleek and modern styling that makes it look somewhat athletic. The Bolt EUV looks tougher and more aggressive than its smaller sibling. It features more SUV-like proportions, a more dominating front fascia, and a longer and more muscular hood. Additionally, it's fitted with a faux skid plate that enhances its outdoorsy appeal. It's also about six inches longer than the Bolt EV. PERFORMANCE Both the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV are equipped with a single-motor powertrain. This unit delivers 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via a one-speed automatic transmission. With this setup, the two electric vehicles are able to respond instantaneously to accelerator inputs and provide adequate low-end torque to get you off the line quickly. With their impressive acceleration, they make overtaking and merging with highway traffic a cinch. Unlike some other electric vehicles on the market, the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are surprisingly fun to drive. They offer a smooth and composed ride under almost any circumstance, from moving over uneven surfaces to negotiating sharp turns. With their potent powertrains and agile handling, they can also provide an engaging driving experience when the situation calls for it. In addition, they come with a one-pedal driving mode that can increase regenerative braking to the extent that you seldom need to apply the brakes to slow down. FUEL ECONOMY The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is slightly more frugal than its larger counterpart, delivering 131/109 MPGe (city/highway) and a driving range of 259 miles. It can provide a maximum of 100 miles of range with 30 minutes of DC fast charging. In comparison, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV achieves 125/104 MPGe and a range of 250 miles. Its driving range increases by 95 miles with 30 minutes of charging. INTERIOR Seating capacity is five for both the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV. However, being the larger vehicle, the Bolt EUV offers more passenger space. While its front seats are equally roomy as those of the smaller Bolt, its rear seats provide an additional three inches of legroom. Both the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV come standard with cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, push-button start, and remote start. If you want a more comfortable and pleasant ride, you can opt for available features such as leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated and heated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats. CARGO SPACE Despite its smaller size, the Chevrolet Bolt EV has a slightly larger cargo area than the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. It offers 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 57 cubic feet behind its front seats. In contrast, the SUV version gives you 16.3 cubic feet behind the back row and 56.9 cubic feet behind the front row. INFOTAINMENT FEATURES Whether you decide to get the Chevy Bolt EV or Chevy Bolt EUV, you'll have a wide array of infotainment features at your disposal. The smaller Bolt offers a 10.2-inch touch-screen display, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth as standard equipment. Available features include a Wi-Fi hot spot and a wireless device charger. The base trim of the Bolt EUV is equipped with a 10.2-inch touch-screen display, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, a wireless device charger, HD radio, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You can upgrade your experience with optional features such as navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a Bose premium audio system. SAFETY FEATURES The new Chevrolet Bolt EV received a number of safety updates for improved crash prevention. It now comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, pedestrian monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure alert, a rearview camera, and automatic high-beam headlamps. The 2LT trim offers additional features such as blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic warning, and a surround-view parking camera system. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV has the same selection of standard driver-assistance features as the hatchback Bolt. However, it comes with a longer list of optional features, which include GM's semi-autonomous Super Cruise system. If you want to save money on fuel, you won't go wrong with either the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV or the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV. Your main consideration should be the amount of passenger space you need. TYPES OF WINTER TIRES

Choosing the right tires for your vehicle is crucial, especially in harsh weather conditions. Winter tires and snow chains are a must for driving in the winter. There are many types of winter tires that you can purchase at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet in White Marsh, MD, so it is essential to understand how they differ. The first type of tire we will discuss is studded snow tires. The metal studs are placed on the tire to create small holes that fill with snow and ice. Studs on these winter tires provide better traction than other types because the metal spikes dig into ice and snow more efficiently than standard rubber does. However, if you live in an area that does not snow very often or at all, these tires may be too aggressive for your driving style because they can damage paved surfaces. Studless tires are another option for winter driving because they are made of a more rigid rubber compound better at gripping the road. The softer rubber stays flexible in colder temperatures. These winter tires are a good option for those who live in areas that do not get much snow and ice. These tires are great options depending on your driving needs, so it is crucial to choose wisely. These tires are great options depending on your driving needs, so it is crucial to choose wisely. We Can Help You Pick the Right Tires. Click Here to Schedule Your Appointment.

THE 2022 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IS OUT!

Chevy's Silverado 1500 is one of the most popular full-sized trucks thanks to its brawny engines, unique styling, and impressive towing capacity. The 1500 was expected to get a mid-cycle refresh for 2022, including some styling changes to the front and alterations to interior features. However, reports now suggest the refresh has been pushed back to 2023 due to production issues. Here's a look at what will be on offer with the 2022 model and what you can expect from the upcoming refresh. EXTERIOR STYLING Since 2018, the Silverado 1500 's front end has carried a new look. With slender headlights and a prominent grill, Chevy's favorite half-ton truck carried a look that set it apart from the traditional Silverado's boxier appearance. Early drawings of the redesign suggest that the refresh will bring back some of the 1500's traditional features. The air vents will be reduced in size and fitted under the headlights. The design image also suggests that the Silverado's new headlights will carry a different version of the current C form. These alterations would mean a style change for the front bumper too. INTERIOR UPGRADES When the refreshed Silverado 1500 arrives, a new look cabin is expected to be part of it. The traditional column-mounted gear shifter will disappear in favor of an as yet undisclosed shifter design. Updates to the dash and central stack are also coming. Drivers will also benefit from an all-new gage cluster to enable you to monitor your vehicle's performance more easily while you're on the go. ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE Chevy's engine lineup for the Silverado is predicted to remain largely unchanged. The base 285-horsepower V-6 is great for your daily driving needs, but it won't manage the truck's top towing capacity. A turbocharged V-4 with 310 horsepower provides better towing abilities, while the 270-horsepower turbodiesel combines that with the fuel efficiency that diesel engines are known for. To access the Silverado 1500's top towing numbers and powerful acceleration, you'll want to choose from its two V-8 options. The first puts out 355 horsepower, while the second cranks out a whopping 420 horsepower. The Chevy's turbodiesel engine is the best for fuel economy. It manages 23 mpg on city roads and 33 mpg on the highway. With the powerful V-8, these numbers drop to 17 mpg and 23 mpg respectively. This is still better than many of the Silverado 1500's class rivals. CARGO BEDS AND CABS There's no indication that Chevy plans to change anything about the size of its three popular cargo bed options. The Silverado's 5-feet-10-inch bed is ideal for families looking for plenty of storage capacity and seating for up to six. The two longer beds are perfect for working trucks. The mid-sized bed measures 6 feet 7 inches in length, while the longest bed on offer stretches your cargo area to 8 feet 2 inches. Note that the longest bed can only be had with the Regular cab, which is designed to carry three people and is best suited to work trucks. You'll also still have three cabs to choose from following the redesign. We've already talked about the Regular cab, so all that's left to explain are the differences between the Double and Crew cabs. Double cab Silverados offer plenty of legroom in the second row of seats and can sit up to six people. They have half-sized rear doors. The Crew cab also seats up to six, but offers even more legroom in the rear row. If adult passengers travel regularly back there, they'll probably find it easier getting in and out thanks to the full-sized rear doors. INFOTAINMENT AND TECHNOLOGY Some major changes are coming with Chevy's refresh to the technology on offer in the Silverado. Perhaps the biggest is the introduction of Chevy's Super Cruise tech system. This driving mode enables your truck to tow semi-autonomously and drive more independently on the highway. In the 1500's base setup, you'll get a 7-inch infotainment screen and two speakers. Smart phone compatibility, BlueTooth connectivity, and two USB ports also come standard. In higher trim cabs, you can find an 8-inch screen, six- or seven-speaker audio systems, and a navigation system. You can also add a wireless hotspot and wireless device charging. The Silverado already features a wide range of driver assistance technology that will continue to support the Super Cruise system once it's introduced. One extremely helpful standard safety feature is Teen Driver, which allows you to impose restrictions on how your truck is used by a secondary driver. For example, if your teenage son or daughter is learning to drive, you can create speed limits for your 1500 or volume limits for the stereo. Optional add-ons include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian detection. These features aim to provide you with alerts if a person or object is detected up ahead, and apply the brakes promptly to bring your truck to a swift stop. There's also a selection of safety features designed to make highway driving that bit easier. These include lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and lane change alert. Finally, there are safety features offered to make parking your truck a breeze. You can add front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic alert. HOW TO CHANGE YOUR OIL

Performing regular maintenance on your vehicle yourself can save you money versus taking your car to a mechanic. Many DIY people choose to maintain their vehicles themselves because they enjoy it, as well. At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we understand this reasoning and support anyone who decides to change their car's oil, rotate its tires, and more. However, we only want you to do it right. That's why we've created this article on how to change your oil. Follow these simple steps, and you'll have the oil changed in no time. WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL? You should change your car's oil regularly. Most mechanics recommend changing your car's oil every 4,000 miles, but every vehicle has different specifications. Check your owner's manual for your car's specific instructions. Changing your car's oil early won't do any harm. If you happen to go a few hundred miles over the manufacturer's recommendation, don't worry, but don't wait much longer. As the oil breaks down, it loses its viscosity (its ability to lubricate and protect adequately) and could damage your engine components. WHAT TYPE OF OIL SHOULD YOU USE? Every engine uses a specific oil, expressed in weight, such as 5W30 or 10W40. The weight refers to the oil's flow rate at 210 degrees Fahrenheit, the average operating temperature of most engines. The first number separated by the "W" indicates the winter or cold temperature flow rate, while the second number represents the warm temperature flow rate. Thus, a 5W30 will flow faster at cold temperatures and slower at warm temperatures. This faster flow rate gets the oil moving in cold weather, lubricating the metal parts that would otherwise rub together and cause damage. Once it warms up, the oil's viscosity gets thicker and thus protects the engine against the high operating temperatures. Check your owner's manual for the proper oil and only use that oil. You'll also need an oil filter. Again, use your owner's manual to determine the proper filter. Most auto parts stores can look this up for you and the correct oil on the off chance you've misplaced your owner's manual. You can also contact Koons White Marsh Chevrolet for help. Our service center will happily look up the specifications for oil and filter, and we can have them ready for you to pick up if you choose to buy them from us. TOOLS YOU'LL NEED TO CHANGE YOUR OIL You'll need an oil filter wrench, a wrench sized for your Chevy's oil pan's drain plug, a funnel, and some gloves to keep your hands clean. You'll need a pan to catch the oil, and you should probably put an old blanket or some flattened cardboard beneath the engine to catch any dripping oil. Oil filters come in different sizes, so you'll need the correct size oil filter wrench. As for the drain plug, a simple socket wrench will do. Likely, you already have the proper size if you own a set. Gather these items, and you're ready to begin. STEP ONE: RAISE THE VEHICLE At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we put your Chevy up on one of our lifts to easily access your oil pan underneath the engine. Since you probably don't have a lift like ours, you need to jack up your car and use jack stands. You can also buy ramps that you can drive up on to support the front end. However you raise your vehicle, do so safely, and give yourself enough room to work. At this point, you should put your blanket or cardboard down and then place your catch pan beneath your Chevy's oil drain plug. A good tip here would be to purchase a catch pan with a wide opening that includes a screen to catch your drain plug should you drop it. Fishing out a plug from a pan of oil gets messy. STEP TWO: DRAIN THE OIL Loosen the drain plug with a wrench until you can twist it by hand. Be warned; once you remove the drain plug, the oil will flow. Using your thumb and forefinger, turn the loose drain plug until it comes out. Allow the oil to drain completely. It only takes a few minutes. Once the oil drains, return the drain plug and tighten it down. STEP THREE: REPLACE THE OIL FILTER Locate the oil filter. It should look like the new filter. We recommend using genuine Chevrolet OEM parts for all your maintenance needs. You can order parts online from us, and we'll have them ready to pick up when you arrive. Make sure you position your catch pan beneath the filter because oil will leak when you remove it. Use your oil filter wrench to unscrew and loosen the filter. Then, unscrew the filter by hand. Once removed, don't tilt the filter as it contains oil that will spill. Pour the filter oil into your catch pan, and then place the old filter in the box that contained the new filter. Make sure you remove the old rubber gasket between the filter and engine. Failing to remove the gasket could cause a leak, spilling your new oil all over the ground upon startup. Your new filter has the same gasket. Dab your finger in the oil and wipe the gasket down to ensure a proper seal. Then, hand-tighten the filter onto the engine before using the filter wrench. Don't over-tighten the filter as this could cause damage to it. Just get it snug. STEP FOUR: REFILL THE OIL After double-checking that you've tightened the oil drain plug and oil filter, open your hood and remove the oil cap on the top of your engine. Using a funnel to pour, fill up your engine with the recommended amount of oil. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle into the pan, and then check the dipstick to be sure you have the right amount. Replace the oil cap, and you're finished. At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we love when our customers take good care of their vehicles. That's why we want to help you every step of the way. It's also why we pay more for your Chevy when you keep it well maintained. You can use our online vehicle evaluation tool to get a true cash offer and see just how much your Chevy is worth. Then, when you're ready to upgrade to a newer model, you can bring your car in. We're so confident in our offer, we'll buy your Chevy, even if you don't purchase another vehicle from us.
