Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate, visit with family, and appreciate the simple things in life. When you’re not planning your holiday feast, you want something fun to do. Whether you’re visiting the Baltimore area or are a born-and-bred Baltimorean, being in the know is the first step in ensuring this holiday season is unforgettable for you and your family. Read on to learn about our list of the top five ways to enjoy Thanksgiving in Baltimore, Maryland.

THANKSGIVING DAY AFTERNOON LUNCH CRUISE

Save your kitchen and your grocery budget, avoid the cleanup, and take your Thanksgiving celebration to the waters. City Cruises is offering a special Thanksgiving Day cruise complete with all your holiday meal favorites. Make it a memorable season and spend time with loved ones rather than in a hot kitchen. This special event includes a two-hour early lunch cruise along the Patapsco River with harbor views.

Your family can indulge in a buffet and eat unlimited amounts of their favorite Thanksgiving entrees, salads, and desserts. Together you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Baltimore skyline and visit local landmarks. Onboard entertainment includes a DJ playing some musical favorites, and guests have the option of adding upgrades like cocktails or window tables to catch the best views.

Lunch menu highlights include mesclun salad with festive cranberries, feta cheese, and slivered almonds with an orange champagne vinaigrette. The menu also features oven-roasted flounder, handcarved turkey, mashed sweet potatoes, and a seasonal dessert station.

Dress code for the cruise is casual, and boarding begins at 12:30 p.m. The cruise is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and departs from Inner Harbor at 561 Light St. For pricing details check the website or call 866-312-2469.

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING TRIBUTE

Do some good while having fun at the 30th Anniversary Annual Thanksgiving Tribute. Hosted by Govans Ecumenical Development Corp., the tribute is a fundraiser where various networks of supporters, including corporate sponsors, individual donors, and volunteers, raise awareness and highlight significant accomplishments the organization has realized.

Attendees will enjoy festival fare, an open bar, food, raffles, and fun. This year, the celebration will be at the B&O Railroad Museum and will be virtually live-streamed from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For information, call 410-433-2442.

MARYLAND ZOO IN BALTIMORE

Get the kids active and learning by paying a visit to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. You and your loved ones will have the opportunity to visit with some spectacular animals and learn all about their habitats, dietary needs, and the conservation efforts being made to sustain their existence. Some zoo favorites include the penguins, which are always entertaining when they waddle about and play.

Starting Friday, November 19, the zoo will host Zoo Lights. This brilliant seasonal display of festive lights decorates the zoo. Visitors have the option of enjoying a walking tour or driving through the display area. We suggest you bundle up if the weather is brisk and take advantage of this year’s expanded walking trail. Tickets for the walk-through begin at $28 and include free carousel rides. Drive-through tickets are $33. Lights are aglow from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If you go the weekend of November 26 and 27, you’ll be walking into their BRRR Fest. This event is optimal for wine and beer lovers. It offers unlimited beer and wine sampling during Zoo Lights. Designated drivers and guests under 21 (who won’t be sipping alcohol) are $30 per entry, while those 21 and over can enter for $50. The zoo is at One Safari Place. For additional information, call 410-396-7102.

FESTIVAL OF TREES

The Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Festival of Trees is an annual event that will take place this year from November 26-28. The 32nd annual festival is a fundraiser that benefits patients, students, and programs at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Participants can enjoy viewing one-of-a-kind designer trees, wreaths, and gingerbread houses, and they can also purchase some to adorn their own homes. Silent auctions to raise funds for the institute will offer items ranging from sports memorabilia to family fun baskets and packages.

This year the entire event has been transitioned to an online format, complete with virtual entertainment. There will also be a special guest performance by Grammy-nominated group Milkshake. Attendance is free for all and features a live Q&A with Santa and Disney princesses. For information visit the website or call 443-923-7330.

THE BALTIMORE RAVENS

Treat the sports fanatic in your family to a fun-filled game day featuring the Baltimore Ravens. They’ll be facing off against the Cleveland Browns at the M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, November 28. There are few things as exhilarating as sitting in a stadium and watching a live game. Enjoy some stadium food, drink some cold sodas, and have some laughs with family and friends as you watch our Baltimore Ravens battle it out on the turf.

Cheer on your favorite players, walk the concourse, and if you can, plan a delightful meal before the game to catch up with family and friends. Ticket prices vary, but adult general admission starts at about $104. For information regarding game day rules and regulations, check the website or review ticket information. Just be sure you dress for the weather because it can get windy and cold.
