Year after year, the Chevrolet Silverado continues to be a top choice for drivers who want a powerful pickup truck with maximum capabilities, whether you’re hauling materials between job sites or heading out on an off-road adventure. In 2023, you can expect Chevy to continue making even more upgrades to its best-selling Silverado lineup. Review this guide to learn how the upcoming 2023 Chevrolet Silverado compares with the 2022 version.

PERFORMANCE

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado offers four drivetrain options, which are expected to remain the same for 2023 models. The base engine is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, though a four-wheel-drive system is available. An upgraded 5.3-liter V-8 engine, which comes standard on some upper-level 2022 Silverado models, boasts 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It offers the same rear-wheel and four-wheel-drive systems as the base engine.

The other two engines offer maximum power and efficiency. A 6.2-liter V-8 engine, standard on the sporty ZR2 trim, delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission and connects to a four-wheel-drive system. An available Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine provides 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine, which pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission, offers the best fuel economy in the Silverado lineup. With rear-wheel drive, it gets an EPA-estimated 31 mpg highway and 23 mpg city, while four-wheel-drive versions get an estimated 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg city.

TRIM LEVELS

In 2022, Chevrolet introduced an all-new model to the Silverado lineup: the ZR2, a powerful truck with impressive off-roading capabilities. Slotted between the High Country and LTZ trims, the ZR2 is expected to return in 2023 with minor updates. The ZR2 features newly upgraded steel front and rear bumpers for off-road durability and large underbody aluminum skid plates for extra protection when you’re hitting the trails. A specialized off-road suspension, mud-terrain tires, and standard four-wheel drive make this truck an excellent choice for anyone looking to travel off the beaten path.

Other trims in the 2022 Silverado lineup include the ever-capable LT, the stylish LTZ, and the top-level High Country. While these trims are likely to continue into the 2023 model year, Chevy may discontinue the Silverado 1500 Limited, according to the blog, GM Authority. Even without the Limited, the 2023 Silverado fleet will offer plenty of options for drivers seeking different features and customizations within varying price points.

EXTERIOR

In 2022, the Silverado received some exterior upgrades that are expected to carry over into the 2023 model year. These features include redesigned headlamps, a new front bumper and grille, and available 18-, 20-, and 22-inch wheel options. An available multi-flex tailgate, which is likely to be an option for most 2023 Silverado trims, provides various load and access features for enhanced versatility.

The 2023 Chevy Silverado will likely come with the same three cab configurations as the 2022 model year, which are crew, double, and regular. The double cab comes with a standard bed, measuring 89 inches. A smaller bed size is available in crew cab versions, while the regular cab offers a long bed. According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2023 Silverado could come in three new exterior colors: Radiant Red Tintcoat, Sterling Gray Metallic, and Harvest Bronze Metallic.

INTERIOR

Depending on the trim and cab configuration you choose, the 2023 Chevy Silverado will likely have the same passenger occupancy as the 2022 model year. The regular cab versions can seat three passengers with a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat, while the double and crew cab Silverado models have seating for up to six passengers. The base trim comes standard with vinyl seats, while higher trims offer cloth or leather upholstery. Other available features, which may come standard in some 2023 trims, include heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

TECHNOLOGY

The Chevy Silverado received upgraded technology features in 2022, and it’s likely the 2023 models will continue to offer those same high-tech features. A 7-inch touch screen comes standard on the three lower trims, while all other models feature a 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment touch screen. The larger touch screen offers Bluetooth streaming, a multi-touch display, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. You can customize the display’s entertainment and vehicle features to access the apps and functions you use the most. Other features likely to be standard on some 2023 models include wireless charging and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

SAFETY

Every 2022 Chevrolet Silverado comes equipped with Chevy Safety Assist, a comprehensive package of safety and driver-assistance features to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. In 2023, expect those same safety features to be included on all Silverado models. The Chevy Safety Assist package includes:

  • Forward collision alert: This feature warns you when a front-end collision may occur so you can take action. It also provides a tailgating alert when it senses the truck following another vehicle too closely.
  • Automatic emergency braking: At speeds below 50 mph, automatic emergency braking can apply the brakes in some situations to help you avoid a front-end collision.
  • Front pedestrian braking: This safety feature provides alerts and can automatically apply the brakes to help you avoid a front-end collision with a pedestrian.
  • Lane keep assist with lane departure warning: If you unintentionally drift outside of a lane, this feature will use alerts to steer you safely back into the correct lane.
  • Following distance indicator: By displaying the gap time in seconds between the Silverado and another vehicle, this feature can help you decide if you’re following too closely.
  • High beam assist: This feature automatically turns the truck’s high-beam headlights on and off based on traffic, providing safe, enhanced illumination when you’re driving at night.
