Koons White Marsh Chevrolet

Few things incite panic like a seemingly uncontrollable slide across an icy road. Countless White Marsh, MD drivers react to loss of control by engaging in actions that only make it harder to bring these terrifying events to an end. At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we’re committed to helping locals weather the challenges of the winter season. That’s why we’re sharing three reasons to keep panic at bay when your vehicle starts sliding.

Your First Instincts Aren’t Likely to Help

Whenever drivers experience loss of control their first instinct is to slam on the brakes. Bringing a vehicle to a complete stop seems like the best way to avert disaster. On an ice-covered surface, however, braking hard isn’t going to help. The momentum of your vehicle’s wheels is going to be the most effective thing for bringing your car back under control.

You’ll Need to Make Calculated Movements

You also want to avoid jerking the steering wheel to bring yourself out of a turn. The direction in which your car is sliding is the same direction in which you’ll need to turn. Moreover, you should only make a slight adjustment with your steering wheel rather than nervously over-correcting.

The Goal Is to Regain Control When drivers panic, they’re prone to taking actions to undo slides rather than bring them under control. Once a slide happens, accept that you’ll have to correct your course and that you may even veer out of your lane or wind up on the side of the road. Slide correction is a mitigation tactic for minimizing the damages of these events. Once loss of control occurs, trying to aggressively return to your starting position will often cause far more harm than good.

If you’re shopping for a fuel-efficient vehicle in White Marsh, Maryland, you may want to check out the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet. These two vehicles operate exclusively on electricity, which eliminates the need to go to the gas station. Although they’re similar in many ways, they have distinct differences that may make you prefer one of them over the other. Take a look at this detailed comparison between the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV to determine which model is right for you.

TRIM LEVELS

The main difference between the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and the 2022 Chevrolet EUV is that they compete in different segments. The Bolt EV is a subcompact hatchback, while the Bolt EUV is a subcompact SUV.

If you decide to buy the Chevy Bolt EV, you have two trim levels to choose from: the 1LT and the 2LT. The Chevy Bolt EUV, on the other hand, is available in three trims: LT, Premier, and Launch Edition.

EXTERIOR

While they share many exterior design elements, the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Chevrolet Bolt EUV are easily distinguishable from one another. With its two-tiered headlights, black lower body cladding, and floating rear roof pillars, the Bolt EV expresses the robustness of a crossover to a certain extent. However, it also has a sleek and modern styling that makes it look somewhat athletic.

The Bolt EUV looks tougher and more aggressive than its smaller sibling. It features more SUV-like proportions, a more dominating front fascia, and a longer and more muscular hood. Additionally, it’s fitted with a faux skid plate that enhances its outdoorsy appeal. It’s also about six inches longer than the Bolt EV.

PERFORMANCE

Both the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV are equipped with a single-motor powertrain. This unit delivers 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via a one-speed automatic transmission. With this setup, the two electric vehicles are able to respond instantaneously to accelerator inputs and provide adequate low-end torque to get you off the line quickly. With their impressive acceleration, they make overtaking and merging with highway traffic a cinch.

Unlike some other electric vehicles on the market, the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are surprisingly fun to drive. They offer a smooth and composed ride under almost any circumstance, from moving over uneven surfaces to negotiating sharp turns. With their potent powertrains and agile handling, they can also provide an engaging driving experience when the situation calls for it. In addition, they come with a one-pedal driving mode that can increase regenerative braking to the extent that you seldom need to apply the brakes to slow down.

FUEL ECONOMY

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is slightly more frugal than its larger counterpart, delivering 131/109 MPGe (city/highway) and a driving range of 259 miles. It can provide a maximum of 100 miles of range with 30 minutes of DC fast charging. In comparison, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV achieves 125/104 MPGe and a range of 250 miles. Its driving range increases by 95 miles with 30 minutes of charging.

INTERIOR

Seating capacity is five for both the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV. However, being the larger vehicle, the Bolt EUV offers more passenger space. While its front seats are equally roomy as those of the smaller Bolt, its rear seats provide an additional three inches of legroom.

Both the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV come standard with cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, push-button start, and remote start. If you want a more comfortable and pleasant ride, you can opt for available features such as leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated and heated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats.

CARGO SPACE

Despite its smaller size, the Chevrolet Bolt EV has a slightly larger cargo area than the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. It offers 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 57 cubic feet behind its front seats. In contrast, the SUV version gives you 16.3 cubic feet behind the back row and 56.9 cubic feet behind the front row.

INFOTAINMENT FEATURES

Whether you decide to get the Chevy Bolt EV or Chevy Bolt EUV, you’ll have a wide array of infotainment features at your disposal. The smaller Bolt offers a 10.2-inch touch-screen display, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth as standard equipment. Available features include a Wi-Fi hot spot and a wireless device charger.

The base trim of the Bolt EUV is equipped with a 10.2-inch touch-screen display, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, a wireless device charger, HD radio, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You can upgrade your experience with optional features such as navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a Bose premium audio system.

SAFETY FEATURES

The new Chevrolet Bolt EV received a number of safety updates for improved crash prevention. It now comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, pedestrian monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure alert, a rearview camera, and automatic high-beam headlamps. The 2LT trim offers additional features such as blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic warning, and a surround-view parking camera system.

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV has the same selection of standard driver-assistance features as the hatchback Bolt. However, it comes with a longer list of optional features, which include GM’s semi-autonomous Super Cruise system.

If you want to save money on fuel, you won’t go wrong with either the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV or the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV. Your main consideration should be the amount of passenger space you need.

Choosing the right tires for your vehicle is crucial, especially in harsh weather conditions. Winter tires and snow chains are a must for driving in the winter. There are many types of winter tires that you can purchase at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet in White Marsh, MD, so it is essential to understand how they differ.

The first type of tire we will discuss is studded snow tires. The metal studs are placed on the tire to create small holes that fill with snow and ice. Studs on these winter tires provide better traction than other types because the metal spikes dig into ice and snow more efficiently than standard rubber does. However, if you live in an area that does not snow very often or at all, these tires may be too aggressive for your driving style because they can damage paved surfaces.

Studless tires are another option for winter driving because they are made of a more rigid rubber compound better at gripping the road. The softer rubber stays flexible in colder temperatures. These winter tires are a good option for those who live in areas that do not get much snow and ice. These tires are great options depending on your driving needs, so it is crucial to choose wisely.

Chevy’s Silverado 1500 is one of the most popular full-sized trucks thanks to its brawny engines, unique styling, and impressive towing capacity. The 1500 was expected to get a mid-cycle refresh for 2022, including some styling changes to the front and alterations to interior features. However, reports now suggest the refresh has been pushed back to 2023 due to production issues. Here’s a look at what will be on offer with the 2022 model and what you can expect from the upcoming refresh.

EXTERIOR STYLING

Since 2018, the Silverado 1500‘s front end has carried a new look. With slender headlights and a prominent grill, Chevy’s favorite half-ton truck carried a look that set it apart from the traditional Silverado’s boxier appearance.

Early drawings of the redesign suggest that the refresh will bring back some of the 1500’s traditional features.

The air vents will be reduced in size and fitted under the headlights. The design image also suggests that the Silverado’s new headlights will carry a different version of the current C form. These alterations would mean a style change for the front bumper too.

INTERIOR UPGRADES

When the refreshed Silverado 1500 arrives, a new look cabin is expected to be part of it. The traditional column-mounted gear shifter will disappear in favor of an as yet undisclosed shifter design. Updates to the dash and central stack are also coming.

Drivers will also benefit from an all-new gage cluster to enable you to monitor your vehicle’s performance more easily while you’re on the go.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

Chevy’s engine lineup for the Silverado is predicted to remain largely unchanged. The base 285-horsepower V-6 is great for your daily driving needs, but it won’t manage the truck’s top towing capacity. A turbocharged V-4 with 310 horsepower provides better towing abilities, while the 270-horsepower turbodiesel combines that with the fuel efficiency that diesel engines are known for. To access the Silverado 1500’s top towing numbers and powerful acceleration, you’ll want to choose from its two V-8 options. The first puts out 355 horsepower, while the second cranks out a whopping 420 horsepower.

The Chevy’s turbodiesel engine is the best for fuel economy. It manages 23 mpg on city roads and 33 mpg on the highway. With the powerful V-8, these numbers drop to 17 mpg and 23 mpg respectively. This is still better than many of the Silverado 1500’s class rivals.

CARGO BEDS AND CABS

There’s no indication that Chevy plans to change anything about the size of its three popular cargo bed options. The Silverado’s 5-feet-10-inch bed is ideal for families looking for plenty of storage capacity and seating for up to six. The two longer beds are perfect for working trucks. The mid-sized bed measures 6 feet 7 inches in length, while the longest bed on offer stretches your cargo area to 8 feet 2 inches. Note that the longest bed can only be had with the Regular cab, which is designed to carry three people and is best suited to work trucks.

You’ll also still have three cabs to choose from following the redesign. We’ve already talked about the Regular cab, so all that’s left to explain are the differences between the Double and Crew cabs. Double cab Silverados offer plenty of legroom in the second row of seats and can sit up to six people. They have half-sized rear doors. The Crew cab also seats up to six, but offers even more legroom in the rear row. If adult passengers travel regularly back there, they’ll probably find it easier getting in and out thanks to the full-sized rear doors.

INFOTAINMENT AND TECHNOLOGY

Some major changes are coming with Chevy’s refresh to the technology on offer in the Silverado. Perhaps the biggest is the introduction of Chevy’s Super Cruise tech system. This driving mode enables your truck to tow semi-autonomously and drive more independently on the highway.

In the 1500’s base setup, you’ll get a 7-inch infotainment screen and two speakers. Smart phone compatibility, BlueTooth connectivity, and two USB ports also come standard.

In higher trim cabs, you can find an 8-inch screen, six- or seven-speaker audio systems, and a navigation system. You can also add a wireless hotspot and wireless device charging.

The Silverado already features a wide range of driver assistance technology that will continue to support the Super Cruise system once it’s introduced. One extremely helpful standard safety feature is Teen Driver, which allows you to impose restrictions on how your truck is used by a secondary driver. For example, if your teenage son or daughter is learning to drive, you can create speed limits for your 1500 or volume limits for the stereo.

Optional add-ons include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian detection. These features aim to provide you with alerts if a person or object is detected up ahead, and apply the brakes promptly to bring your truck to a swift stop. There’s also a selection of safety features designed to make highway driving that bit easier. These include lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and lane change alert.

Finally, there are safety features offered to make parking your truck a breeze. You can add front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic alert. For even more control over parking, check out Chevy’s surround-view parking camera, which provides an aerial view of your truck so you can maneuver it into position.

Many DIY people choose to maintain their vehicles themselves because they enjoy it, as well. At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we understand this reasoning and support anyone who decides to change their car’s oil, rotate its tires, and more. However, we only want you to do it right. That’s why we’ve created this article on how to change your oil. Follow these simple steps, and you’ll have the oil changed in no time.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL?

You should change your car’s oil regularly. Most mechanics recommend changing your car’s oil every 4,000 miles, but every vehicle has different specifications. Check your owner’s manual for your car’s specific instructions. Changing your car’s oil early won’t do any harm. If you happen to go a few hundred miles over the manufacturer’s recommendation, don’t worry, but don’t wait much longer. As the oil breaks down, it loses its viscosity (its ability to lubricate and protect adequately) and could damage your engine components.

WHAT TYPE OF OIL SHOULD YOU USE?

Every engine uses a specific oil, expressed in weight, such as 5W30 or 10W40. The weight refers to the oil’s flow rate at 210 degrees Fahrenheit, the average operating temperature of most engines. The first number separated by the “W” indicates the winter or cold temperature flow rate, while the second number represents the warm temperature flow rate.

Thus, a 5W30 will flow faster at cold temperatures and slower at warm temperatures. This faster flow rate gets the oil moving in cold weather, lubricating the metal parts that would otherwise rub together and cause damage. Once it warms up, the oil’s viscosity gets thicker and thus protects the engine against the high operating temperatures. Check your owner’s manual for the proper oil and only use that oil.

You’ll also need an oil filter. Again, use your owner’s manual to determine the proper filter. Most auto parts stores can look this up for you and the correct oil on the off chance you’ve misplaced your owner’s manual. You can also contact Koons White Marsh Chevrolet for help. Our service center will happily look up the specifications for oil and filter, and we can have them ready for you to pick up if you choose to buy them from us.

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED TO CHANGE YOUR OIL

You’ll need an oil filter wrench, a wrench sized for your Chevy’s oil pan’s drain plug, a funnel, and some gloves to keep your hands clean. You’ll need a pan to catch the oil, and you should probably put an old blanket or some flattened cardboard beneath the engine to catch any dripping oil. Oil filters come in different sizes, so you’ll need the correct size oil filter wrench. As for the drain plug, a simple socket wrench will do. Likely, you already have the proper size if you own a set. Gather these items, and you’re ready to begin.

STEP ONE: RAISE THE VEHICLE

At Koons White Marsh Chevrolet, we put your Chevy up on one of our lifts to easily access your oil pan underneath the engine. Since you probably don’t have a lift like ours, you need to jack up your car and use jack stands. You can also buy ramps that you can drive up on to support the front end. However you raise your vehicle, do so safely, and give yourself enough room to work.

At this point, you should put your blanket or cardboard down and then place your catch pan beneath your Chevy’s oil drain plug. A good tip here would be to purchase a catch pan with a wide opening that includes a screen to catch your drain plug should you drop it. Fishing out a plug from a pan of oil gets messy.

STEP TWO: DRAIN THE OIL

Loosen the drain plug with a wrench until you can twist it by hand. Be warned; once you remove the drain plug, the oil will flow. Using your thumb and forefinger, turn the loose drain plug until it comes out. Allow the oil to drain completely. It only takes a few minutes. Once the oil drains, return the drain plug and tighten it down.

STEP THREE: REPLACE THE OIL FILTER

Locate the oil filter. It should look like the new filter. We recommend using genuine Chevrolet OEM parts for all your maintenance needs. You can order parts online from us, and we’ll have them ready to pick up when you arrive. Make sure you position your catch pan beneath the filter because oil will leak when you remove it. Use your oil filter wrench to unscrew and loosen the filter. Then, unscrew the filter by hand. Once removed, don’t tilt the filter as it contains oil that will spill.

Pour the filter oil into your catch pan, and then place the old filter in the box that contained the new filter. Make sure you remove the old rubber gasket between the filter and engine. Failing to remove the gasket could cause a leak, spilling your new oil all over the ground upon startup.

Your new filter has the same gasket. Dab your finger in the oil and wipe the gasket down to ensure a proper seal. Then, hand-tighten the filter onto the engine before using the filter wrench. Don’t over-tighten the filter as this could cause damage to it. Just get it snug.

STEP FOUR: REFILL THE OIL

After double-checking that you’ve tightened the oil drain plug and oil filter, open your hood and remove the oil cap on the top of your engine. Using a funnel to pour, fill up your engine with the recommended amount of oil. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle into the pan, and then check the dipstick to be sure you have the right amount. Replace the oil cap, and you’re finished.
