Koons White Marsh Chevrolet

Apr 14, 2022

If you’re looking for a full-size truck with power and versatility, you’ll struggle to do better than the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTD. The Silverado offers the perfect balance of interior comfort, four engine options under the hood, and plenty of towing capabilities. Here’s an overview put together by our experts at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet on what you can expect from the Silverado 1500 LTD.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Under the hood of the Silverado 1500 LTD, you can choose from four engine options. The first option is a four-cylinder turbocharged engine that’s good for 310 horsepower. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission to complete the power train.

The available engine upgrades include a 355-horsepower V-8, a 420-horsepower V-8, and a 277-horsepower turbodiesel six-cylinder unit.

If you’re concerned about fuel economy, the turbodiesel engine provides some of the best mpg numbers in the full-size pickup class. It gets 23 mpg on city roads and 33 mpg on the highway. The turbocharged four-cylinder unit manages 20 mpg and 23 mpg respectively, while the smaller V-8 gets 17 mpg and 20 mpg respectively.

TOWING AND HAULING

The Silverado’s towing abilities vary depending on the power train you choose. The turbocharged four-cylinder can tow between 9,000 pounds and 9,600 pounds, while the smaller V-8 can pull between 9,300 pounds and 11,500 pounds. Finally, the turbodiesel and larger V-8 can tow a maximum load of 13,300 pounds.

Most Silverados can haul up to 2,000 pounds of cargo in the truck bed. However, the maximum hauling load varies depending on the cab and bed configuration you choose.

CARGO BEDS AND CABS

You can opt for three cargo bed lengths with the Silverado 1500 LTD. The longest is a bed measuring 8 feet, 2 inches, which is a good choice if you’re primarily using your vehicle as a work truck. The midsize bed measures 6 feet, 7 inches in length, while the shortest version is 5 feet, 10 inches long.

If you want the shortest bed, you’ll need to opt for the CrewMax Cab. This cab can seat up to six people and offers adult-friendly seating in the rear row. With 43 inches of rear-seat legroom, there’s more space back there than in any of Chevy’s utility vehicles, including the spacious Tahoe and Suburban.

If you’d rather have the longest bed option, you’ll need to opt for the Regular Cab, which has a single bench seat with space for up to three people.

The third cab option is the Double Cab, which can seat up to six. Rear-row passengers in the Double Cab get just over 35 inches of legroom, which is about the same as a compact car. The Double Cab also has half-sized rear doors, while the CrewMax is equipped with four full-sized doors. You can pair the Double Cab with the shortest or midlength cargo beds.

OFF-ROADING

As a full-size truck, the Silverado is well-equipped to keep going when the pavement ends. This pickup is equipped with several features to help you tackle trails and slopes. For example, the Silverado comes with standard four-wheel drive in some trims, a locking rear differential, and skid plates.

The all-new ZR2 trim is the perfect choice for off-roaders, combining all of Chevy’s best off-roading features in a single trim.

INFOTAINMENT TECHNOLOGY

The infotainment system in the Silverado 1500 is equipped with an 8-inch screen and six-speaker stereo. In the LT trim and above, you get a larger 13.4-inch infotainment screen. If you want to link your phone to your vehicle’s infotainment system, you can do so, thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Another useful feature is the wireless hot spot, which allows you to stay connected with friends or work colleagues wherever you are. Bluetooth connectivity and satellite radio are also available.

DRIVER SAFETY

The Silverado 1500 offers several safety features to make your driving experience easier. One of the most popular standard features is Teen Driver, which allows you to restrict how your truck is used by a younger family member while they’re learning to drive. For example, you can impose speed limits or set a maximum level for your stereo.

The hitch guidance system is a big help when it comes to hooking up a trailer safely. There’s also a cruise control feature that can make highway driving a little easier by holding your pickup on a steady course.

Some other notable safety options include front and rear parking sensors, which can assist you when you’re maneuvering your truck into a tight spot. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert can warn you of vehicles approaching from unexpected angles.

CHEVY SILVERADO TRIMS

There are nine trim options in the Chevy Silverado 1500 LTD lineup: WT, Custom, Custom TrailBoss, LT, RST, LT TrailBoss, LTZ, ZR2, and High Country. The base trim is known as WT or Work Truck. The WT is the only trim in the lineup that offers the three-seater cab and extra-long cargo bed for maximum storage capabilities.

At the other end of the scale is the Silverado 1500 High Country, which includes all of the luxury features to help your family relax in the cab. You get genuine leather upholstery, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and an in-bed power outlet. Under the hood, you have the option of adding the most powerful V-8 in the Silverado lineup, which returns over 400 horsepower to help you accelerate.
