FOGO DE CHOA

Fogo de Choa is a Brazilian steakhouse, or churrascaria, that is well-known for its exceptional service, unparalleled cuisine, and dining experiences extraordinaire. The founders of this authentic steakhouse grew up on a traditional southern Brazilian farm in the Serra Gaucha. Here, they learned how to cook in the grilling tradition of the churrasco and transported that same passion for Brazilian cuisine to Maryland.

The gaucho chefs, who prepare traditional Brazilian meats and genuine dishes, will surprise you tableside with a variety of flavorful steaks and roasts, carving them right off the skewer. Their meats are slow-roasted over an open flame and gently seasoned to enhance the natural flavor of the steaks, chicken, lamb, and pork. Alongside your lombo (pork loin), filet mignon, or Chilean sea bass, they serve traditional Brazilian side dishes including polenta, fogo feijado (black bean stew with sausage over rice), or caramelized bananas. Finish off your meal with a Brazilian-style flan, molten chocolate cake, or Key lime pie.

Begin your evening with an appetizer such as chicken pakora, delicately spiced chicken fritters, or the tofu chili appetizer, deep-fried tofu cooked with onion, green bell pepper, garlic, and soy sauce. You may prefer to start with a soup or salad like cream of crab, shrimp munch soup, or chicken tikka garden salad. The entrees include a wide variety of biryanis, a spiced mix of meat and rice, vegan dishes, vegetarian entrees, and tandoori clay oven plates, or choose from one of their chicken, lamb, or seafood entrees, with a side of Indian breads and various accompaniments.

With its terrific reputation for powerful acceleration and nimble handling, the Chevy Corvette is a difficult sports car to beat. The Corvette has gone through significant changes over recent years, shifting from the C7 to the C8 generation for the 2020 model. Despite some significant alterations, the Corvette C8 continues to retain many of Chevy’s classic styling elements in its new setup. Here’s an overview of the differences and similarities between the Corvette’s two latest generations.

ENGINE POSITION

The most obvious difference between the Corvette C7 and C8 is the placement of the engine. The C8 is Chevy’s first mid-engine Corvette, meaning that the powerful V-8 unit is positioned further back in the body. Many sports car experts welcome this development, noting that the weight distribution in the C8 should lead to better handling and improved performance.

The engine itself is a similar unit in both generations: a 6.2-liter V-8. In the C7, the base engine puts out 455 horsepower, while the C8’s unit improves on that rating, at 490 horsepower. An upgraded version of the V-8 engine, available in the C8’s high-performance trims, adds a touch more power, with 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

Both Corvettes continue to offer rear-wheel drive only.

SPEED AND PERFORMANCE

The Corvette C8 stands out from its predecessor and many of its classmates in the sports car segment with tremendous acceleration. Chevy says the C8 can shift you from zero to 60 mph in an incredible 2.9 seconds. This marks a considerable improvement over the C7, which was listed as getting from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

The C8 has also proved its racetrack chops by edging out the C7 in a direct contest organized by Car and Driver. The two vehicles equipped, with the Z51 Performance package, went head-to-head at the Grattan Raceway in Michigan, with the C8 coming out on top in a number of areas. Firstly, the C8’s best lap tie was 0.9 second faster than the C7, with the vehicles managing bests of 126.1 seconds and 127 seconds respectively.

In addition, Car and Driver testers noted that the C8 was able to brake later and accelerate faster in and out of turns. The newer generation corvette also edged out its predecessor for raw speed, managing to go almost 3 mph faster through the 100 mph Sweeper compared to the Corvette C7.

EXTERIOR APPEARANCE

Several styling changes set the C8 apart from the C7. One of the most obvious differences is due to the engine’s position. While the C7 has a pronounced bump on its hood to accommodate the V-8 unit, the C8’s hood has a flatter appearance due to the engine sitting further back.

The C8’s grills appear much larger than the single grill featured in the C7. The new generation has one large grill in the middle, separated on either side by diagonal lines from two smaller air intakes.

The other major difference is the position of the Corvette’s two seats. In the seventh-generation Corvette, the passengers sit close to the rear wheels in order to accommodate the V-8 up front. The newer C8 pushes the driver and passenger forward so they’re sitting almost in the middle of the car.

INTERIOR DIFFERENCES

The cabin in the C8 underwent a full redesign. This included the introduction of new cabin materials and a new driver-focused infotainment setup. Leather and soft-touch plastics feature more prominently in the C8’s cabin design than in the C7.

Although both the driver and passenger sit much further forward in the C8 than in the C7, there’s still plenty of legroom to ensure a comfortable ride.

As for infotainment and technology, the C8 boasts a 12-inch digital gage cluster behind the steering wheel and an 8-inch infotainment screen located to the driver’s right. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard features, allowing you to access your smartphone and its apps through the Corvette’s screen. In addition, you’ll benefit from Bluetooth connectivity, a wireless hot spot, and two USB ports.

In terms of cargo storage, the C8 benefits from a front trunk in addition to its larger rear storage compartment. In total, these two trunks provide you with over 12 cubic feet of storage. Chevy advises that you can fit two sets of golf clubs in the rear trunk and a few grocery bags up front.

The C7 only has one trunk at the rear. This fact reduces its total cargo storage to about 10 cubic feet in the coupe model and 15 cubic feet in the convertible.

TRIMS

Both the C8 and C7 generations of the Chevy Corvette are available in coupe and convertible body styles. The latest C8 Corvette is sold in three trims: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT.

The main differences between the trims concern the cabin. While the base 1LT trim features leather seats, you gain access to heated and ventilated seats in the 2LT. In the range-topping 3LT trim, you can relax into GT2 seats and enjoy added leather finishings throughout the cabin.

Chevy’s legendary Z51 Performance package is available throughout the lineup if you plan on hitting the racetrack. The Z51 Performance package includes improved aerodynamic design, more powerful brakes, and a limited slip differential.

If you’re in need of a vehicle that can safely and comfortably carry up to nine passengers, look no further than the Chevrolet Tahoe. The 2021 model was fully redesigned and offered even more space than previous generations, while also enhancing handling and interior comfort thanks to its independent rear suspension. The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe built on the success of last year’s model and has some new tricks up its sleeve. Here’s how the two compare.

TRIM LEVELS

The 2021 and 2022 Tahoe models are available in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Both offer excellent standard features, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is also wireless for the 2022 version, as well as standard eight-passenger seating in a 2-3-3 configuration. If you need nine seats, you have the option to replace the two front-row seats with a spacious bench seat that can easily fit the driver and two extra passengers.

Higher trims bring additional options, like heated front seats with memory settings, a nine-speaker Bose sound system, elegant leather upholstery, a wireless charging pad, larger wheels, and additional design features for both interior and exterior, among others. The 2022 version adds a 12.3-inch digital cluster on all trims except the base one, making it easier for drivers to access important information without taking their eyes off the road. The top two trims, Premier and High Country, offer exquisite comfort and luxury features, but many of them are also available for lesser trims as options.

The Z71 trim is for drivers who plan on taking their Tahoe offroad, with special features that add extra off-road capability. Some of these features are the unique front fascia which improves the vehicle’s approach angle, a four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case for situations when you need low-range gearing, a hill-descent system, front skid plate, tow hooks, and all-terrain tires. The main off-road enhancement for the 2022 model is a new electronic limited-slip differential, giving the Tahoe even more traction in off-road situations.

ENGINE OPTIONS

The standard engine for both the 2021 and 2022 Tahoe models is a robust 5.3-liter V-8 that can produce up to 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, paired with an efficient 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive is available for all trims levels and comes as standard for the off-road-oriented Z71. The 2021 model’s High Country trim comes with an exclusive 6.2-liter V-8 engine with a maximum output of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The 2022 model also has it as an option for the RST, Z71, and Premier trims.

Although not initially available at the launch of the 2021 model, the third engine option was launched later on and is also an option for the 2022 model. It’s a Diesel version for those who need high torque levels at low revs and it’s available as an option for all trims except the Z71. The Diesel engine can produce up to 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

INTERIOR SPACE AND COMFORT

Passenger comfort is a top priority for any large SUV and both the 2021 and 2022 Tahoe models certainly deliver on this front. All three rows offer an exceptional amount of space and the wide-opening doors make it easy for passengers of any size to get in and out of the vehicle. The main comfort-enhancing addition to this generation is the independent rear suspension, which not only greatly increases the comfort level for all passengers, but also improves the Tahoe’s maneuverability. Coupled with the fully-adaptive suspension, it also manages to cancel out most minor bumps in the road.

Infotainment has been slightly enhanced for the 2022 version, the 10.2 infotainment system being more responsive, having better graphics,  and offering enhanced Google-based voice controls. Both model years also offer the option of adding a rear entertainment system, to the delight of those sitting in the back during long drives.

SAFETY FEATURES

Safety is always a top priority for drivers, and even more when you’re driving with eight passengers on board. Some of the most useful active safety systems available for both the 2021 and 2022 models are:

  • Forward collision mitigation system: Warns you in case of an imminent frontal collision and automatically applies the brakes if it senses no immediate input from the driver
  • Lane-keeping assist system: Notifies the driver if the vehicle drifts out of its lane without the turn signal being activated and even takes corrective measures to steer it back.
  • Blind-spot monitor: Alerts the driver if a vehicle in the adjacent lane is in the Tahoe’s blind spot.
  • Traffic-adaptive cruise control system: Automatically keeps a constant speed throughout your journey and adjusts it to maintain a safe distance between the Tahoe and the vehicle in front.
  •  Surround-view camera system: Uses a complex camera system to give the drive a top-down view of the Tahoe, which can be highly useful in tight parking situations.

Although both models offer all these driver aids, the lane-keeping assist system is standard for all trims on the 2022 model, while the 2021 model offers it as an option for all trims below the Premier. Also, the 2022 version comes with standard front and rear parking sensors.

The 2021 and 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe models are part of its fifth generation and represent the pinnacle of over three decades of evolution. If you’d like to see them for yourself and maybe take them on a test drive, contact us at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet!

TOUR THE BALTIMORE BASILICA

Constructed between 1806 and 1821, the Baltimore Basilica (409 Cathedral Street) is America’s first cathedral. Officially known as the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this is a popular destination for anyone interested in the historic architecture of the city. The basilica’s architecture was designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who served as Surveyor of Public Buildings for President Jefferson. Latrobe supplied two possible plans for the cathedral, and Bishop John Carroll selected Latrobe’s neoclassical plan as opposed to the Gothic option.

The basilica has seen many historic moments, including the ordination of the first African-American priest on U.S. soil in 1891. Nine of the 14 deceased archbishops of Baltimore are laid to rest in the crypt, which is accessible to the public.

Visitors can tour the basilica on their own during the week or on select weekend times when there is no Mass, wedding, or other event taking place. Guided tours are available as well. Groups of 10 or more must schedule their tours at least two weeks in advance. Though there is no required fee for these tours, a $5 donation is suggested.

CHECK OUT THE ENOCH PRATT FREE LIBRARY

The Enoch Pratt Free Library (400 Cathedral Street) offers resources and activities for visitors of all ages. Small children can participate in family story time or pick up a take-and-make kit to do seasonal crafts. For school-age children, the library hosts crafts and games. Children can also check out STEAM to GO kits that include books, games, and toys centered around themes that range from economics to emotions to electronics.

Teens can access the library’s makerspace and create more advanced projects, such as 3D printed miniatures or physics experiments. The facility also offers a library of things where you can check out a gaming system, musical instrument, record player, GoPro camera, digital microscope, knitting loom set, sewing machine, coding robot, and more. Adults have plenty of activities to enjoy at the library as well, including fitness classes, book clubs, educational programs, and workplace readiness sessions.

EXPLORE PIERCE’S PARK

Pierce’s Park (701 E. Pratt Street) provides two fascinating areas to explore. In the section designed for children, you’ll find a musical fence that makes sounds when tapped, a stainless steel horn sculpture that doubles as a slide, and a willow tunnel that little ones can crawl through. A picturesque “Ribbon Walk” connects this to the other section of the park where you’ll find an open green and several stunning sculptures. Lush rain gardens collect and filter stormwater on-site as well, making this park both fun and functional.

All of these engaging activities are available free of charge, so there’s no excuse for missing them. Load up the car and start exploring these Baltimore highlights!

THE PERFECT VEHICLE FOR YOUR BALTIMORE ADVENTURES

Are you looking to upgrade your vehicle for your future adventures? You can trade in your current model and check out the latest options for new vehicles at Koons White Marsh Chevrolet. We carry a wide selection of new and gently pre-owned vehicles for you to consider.

Who doesn’t love a luxury performance car, especially one that saves you money? The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette has the ultimate value proposition for a vehicle of its type, with lightning-quick acceleration, accurate handling, a comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, and intuitive tech features. Here’s everything you need to know about the Corvette for 2022.

WHAT ARE THE 2022 CORVETTE’S TRIM LEVELS?

The Chevrolet Corvette is available in coupe and convertible body types as well as three trim levels for 2022, similar to prior years. In order of price, these three models are: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. The 2LT includes heated and ventilated seats, an enhanced audio system, and other upgrades, while the 3LT builds from there with top-level nappa leather GT2 seats and leather interior accents throughout the cabin. Each trim could be a suitable option, depending on your needs and budget. Each model can also potentially add the Z51 performance package, which we will also discuss.

WHAT’S NEW FOR THE 2022 CORVETTE?

For 2022, there are multiple modifications that have excited Corvette fans. The engine has been upgraded with a new fuel injection system, with calibration that reduces emissions and improves idle stability. Its cylinder deactivation mechanism has also been tuned to work across a wider rpm range, causing the vehicle to stay quieter at higher speeds.

Shopping for a 2022 Corvette, you’ll be able to pick from three new colors: Caffeine, Hypersonic Gray, and Amplify Orange Tintcoat. It’s worth noting: the Z51 performance package is standard on the upcoming 2022 Corvette Special Edition, which is based on the 3LT trim.

WHAT IS THE CORVETTE Z51 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE?

In addition to quicker acceleration, the Z51 performance package equips the 2022 Corvette with a long list of enhancements for track racing thrills. Brembo brakes, an upgraded performance exhaust system, performance rear axle ratio, electronic limited-slip differential, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer performance tires, a heavy-duty cooling system, and Z51 front and rear spoilers are a few notable parts of the extensive performance overhaul.

HOW IS THE 2022 CORVETTE EXTERIOR?

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette mid-engine layout gives it a uniquely assertive appearance. The well-sculpted body features crisp angles throughout, with a bulge housing the large V-8 engine, as well as air ducts in the front fascia and behind the doors. Whether as the convertible with its retractable hardtop, or the coupe with the body-color removable roof panel, the Corvette has never looked better.

HOW DOES THE 2022 CORVETTE PERFORM?

The 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine that powers the 2022 Corvette produces 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. With an available performance exhaust upgrade, the horsepower gets a bump to 495. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission transmits this power to the rear wheels, resulting in an estimated city fuel economy of 16 mpg, highway fuel economy of 24 mpg, and a combined fuel economy of 19 mpg.

The 2022 Corvette can accelerate to 60 mph in roughly three seconds flat when equipped with the Z51 package, and some testing has even recorded slightly lower times. Meanwhile, the top speed is a formidable 194 mph. The Corvette uses coil-over springs for the first time, and some trim levels include GM’s outstanding magnetic ride control. A restricted electronic slip differential is also available.

WHAT IS THE 2022 CORVETTE LIKE INSIDE?

The inside of the 2022 Corvette is in a league of its own. There are three distinct types of seats all power-adjustable to varying lengths, optional seat heating and cooling, and ample room for taller passengers. It’s a comfy and practical vehicle in either body style, with the low hood and huge windshield allowing a broad view of the front. Leather upholstery appears standard on base 1LT models, with even fancier options the higher you look.

As for storing groceries, luggage, and more, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette has a combined storage area of 12.6 cubic feet in the front and rear trunks, more than adequate for a luxury sports vehicle. A set of golf clubs, carry-on items, and more will fit securely in the Corvette.

HOW IS THE CORVETTE’S INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM?

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette’s infotainment system, which has a 12-inch digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel and an 8-inch touch screen to the right, is one of its newer highlights. The driver has easy access to the touch screen, and both displays offer intuitive layouts with crisp graphics and quick response. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard features, allowing you to reflect your smartphone interface on the dashboard.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DRIVE A 2022 CORVETTE?

The 2022 Corvette is the best deal out there among sport cruisers, and the driving experience is a major part of the package. It performs admirably on a racetrack while being relaxed and comfortable on older roads.

Drivers new to sporty driving need not feel nervous, as the Corvette is as relaxing and accessible as it is thrilling when you want it to be. In the city, steering is agile, the brakes are secure, and the magnetic dampers do an excellent job of keeping the low-riding vehicle from bumping or vibrating over obstacles. When driving around town, the massive engine and eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox work well, and there’s no drama at modest speeds as well.

WHAT SAFETY FEATURES DOES THE 2022 CORVETTE HAVE?

The 2022 Corvette comes equipped with cruise control, traction control, and the Chevrolet Teen Driver system to set safety limits on certain driving factors. There is an HD rear vision camera standard across the range, also integrated into the rearview mirror for 2LT and 3LT models. Front cameras are available on the 2LT and 3LT as well. For 2022, rear cross-traffic and side blind zone alarms, as well as a head-up display, are newly available on the 2LT.

In conclusion, this Chevrolet has a lot of advantages compared to other sports cars and convertibles. We’d be happy to assist you in determining whether or not the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette is the right car for you. Browse the Koons White Marsh Chevrolet new inventory of Chevy models, and contact us at any time to discuss your options. We’d be delighted to help you test drive a 2022 Corvette.

RUDDY DUCK (FOR BRUNCH)

The Ruddy Duck Seafood & Alehouse is located on the remote point of Piney Point, Maryland. THE 13TH FLOOR

If luxury is your game, you’ll find it on the 13th floor atop the historic Belvedere Hotel in Baltimore. Head to this venue for their Saturday and Sunday brunch, and don’t skimp on the mimosas, beignets, and their full brunch menu. The Belvedere was built in 1903 and was Baltimore’s first luxury hotel. There’s plenty to see (and we don’t just mean the view of Baltimore) as you make your way to the 13th floor, and the venue hosts many special events, such as weddings and anniversaries.

ISLAND VIEW WATERFRONT

For something laid-back and relaxed, why not visit Island View Waterfront Cafe on the Chesapeake Bay? The name says it all – with a great view of the Chesapeake, this unassuming cafe offers visitors jaw-dropping scenery alongside casual dining fare. On their deck, you’ll find comfortable and casual tables that welcome the whole family to enjoy crab cakes and other local favorites. You can even rent kayaks after your meal to do a little extra exploration of the bay.

BO BROOKS CRAB HOUSE

If you’re planning a trip to Baltimore’s harbor, you’ll find no shortage of restaurants with fantastic food and views to match. We recommend visiting Bo Brooks Crab House, a mom-and-pop restaurant on Lighthouse Point, serving steamed crab, craft beer, and other Maryland specialties. With current capacity restrictions, they’re only seating outside, so every spot at this laid-back establishment will have a view of the waterfront and Patapsco River.

One aspect of driving that many people in White Marsh, MD struggle with is understanding what oversteer and understeer are, how they differ from each other, and when you might need to correct for them.

Oversteer

When a vehicle is oversteering, it means that the rear of the car is sliding around. That’s not good, but it’s also pretty easy to correct. If you’re driving down a straightaway and your rear end starts to slide out toward the side, all you need to do is gently apply your brake. This will make the rear of the car start sliding toward the front again, and it will bring you back into a stable position.

Understeer

When a car is having problems with understeer, the front end of the car slides. This can be just as dangerous as oversteer because it means that you’re unable to control where your vehicle is going. Understeer isn’t always caused by a loss in traction though; sometimes.

Standardization of installations in a vehicle is a very critical element at the designing stage. To make it easy for parents in White Marsh, MD to install child restraints, the Lower Anchor and Tethers For Children (LATCH) evaluation is used. When shopping for a vehicle, you should pick one with convenient LATCH systems.

Vehicle models are designed to make lower anchors more accessible, and the placement of the tether anchors should be easy to locate. Using the LATCH evaluations helps you to get a good and tight installation.

Therefore, an improved LATCH will make installs easier for parents and lessen the misuse of restraints by the child. LATCH hardware evaluations play an important role in the latest vehicle models. Second row LATCH placement is taken into account when rating vehicles. Vehicles with the third tether anchor in the second or third row give a good LATCH evaluations rating. Both anchors must meet the lower anchor criterion to be considered a good LATCH rating.
