Purchasing a new car can be an exciting process, but you may feel overwhelmed by the number of options you have. It’s helpful to compare some vehicles that you’re considering buying. If you’re interested in purchasing a new pickup truck, two options that you may be on your list are the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2022 Ford F-150. We’ve created this guide comparing the features of each truck to help you decide which is the right truck for your needs.

Trim Levels

Manufacturers offer a range of trim levels in each of their vehicle models to provide you with more options and help you find the specific vehicle with the features you need. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is available in nine trim levels, which include High Country, ZR2, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, RST, LT, Custom Trail Boss, Custom, and WT. There are similar truck models available, such as the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado LTD and 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD.

The 2022 Ford F-150 is available in eight trim levels. These trim levels include XL, XLT, LARIAT, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Tremor, and Raptor. It’s also only available in one similar model of vehicle, which is the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. This related truck model is only available in four trim levels, providing you with fewer options than the 2022 Chevy Silverado family.

Engine

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado lineup includes four powerful engines. The 2.7-liter turbo engine achieves 310 horsepower at 5,600 rotations per minute and 348 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rotations per minute, and it comes standard with the WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST Double Cab, and LT Trail Boss trim levels. Next up is the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, which comes standard on the RST Crew Cab 4×4, LTZ 4×4, and High Country 4×4 trim levels. It’s capable of 355 horsepower at 5,600 rotations per minute and 383 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rotations per minute.

The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engine continues this lineup of engines. Exclusively standard to the ZR2 trim level, this engine achieves 420 horsepower at 5,600 rotations per minute and 460 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rotations per minute. For an efficient but hardworking engine, consider upgrading to the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine, which is available for Custom Trail Boss, LT, PST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. This diesel engine is capable of 277 horsepower at 3,750 rotations per minute and 460 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rotations per minute.

The 2022 Ford F-150 lineup offers five engine options, one of which is a full hybrid. Starting with the 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V-6 engine, this engine achieves only 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, and it comes standard with the XL and XLT trim levels. Next is the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, which is exclusively standard with the LARIAT trim level. It achieves up to 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Continuing with the standard engine options, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine comes standard with the Limited, Tremor, and Raptor trim levels. It’s capable of 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Similarly, the 5-liter Ti-VCT V-8 engine achieves 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with the King Ranch and Premium trim levels.

As previously mentioned, the 2022 Ford F-150 engine lineup includes an entirely hybrid option. The 3.5-liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V-6 engine achieves 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. However, it’s not standard with any trim level, and it’s available only as an upgrade for the XL, XLT, LARIAT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trim levels.

Trailering and Towing

Trailering and towing capabilities for the Silverado and F-150 lineups differ based on factors like the trim level, cab size, and cargo. However, the Silverado offers exclusive technologies and features to help improve your towing experience. Safety features like auto grade braking, hill start assist, and trailer sway control. Enjoy peace of mind during your journey with up to eight available cameras to provide 14 unique views of your cargo. This truck also comes with the available Trailering App, which includes tire pressure and temperature monitoring, pre-departure checklists, and customizable trailer profiles, creating a driver-friendly towing and trailering experience.

Entertainment

Both the 2022 Chevy Silverado and 2022 Ford F-150 lineups offer entertainment features to help you enjoy your drive more. The F-150 includes an available 12-inch touchscreen that allows you to access your playlists, view directions, or make calls. It comes standard starting with the LARIAT trim and up, and it’s available for the XLT trim.

The Silverado, however, includes a 13.4-inch multi-touch infotainment system standard with all trim levels without requiring any kind of upgrade. This system comes with Google built in and is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Use the touchscreen display to manage and use certain smartphone applications, and enjoy the simplicity of its Bluetooth connectivity to make voice-activated phone calls.

Pricing

Prices for each Silverado and F-150 model vary by trim level. However, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado starts at $31,500 MSRP. The 2022 Ford F-150, though, has a slightly lower starting price at $29,990 MSRP.
