As warmer temperatures and longer hours of daylight return to Maryland, families want to get outside and celebrate spring. Local parks make perfect places to give everyone some well-deserved recreation and relaxation. Explore seven parks near White Marsh, Maryland, where you can take the family to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Angel Park

Created by Kelli and Andy Szczybor, Angel Park in Perry Hall is Baltimore County’s largest all-inclusive park and playground. The park memorializes the couple’s son Ryan, who died from leukemia as an infant. 

The playground portion of Angel Park features equipment specially designed to accommodate children of all abilities. Playground equipment includes a wheelchair-accessible shaky bridge, therapeutic swings, zip lines, and quiet areas for children with autism and sensory processing disorders.

Cowenton Ridge Park

Located in Perry Hall, Cowenton Ridge Park offers White Marsh families more than 25 acres of recreational space to explore. Park guests will find athletic fields and playgrounds for children. Public restroom facilities are also available.

Cowenton Ridge Park features a half-mile loop walking trail that invites individuals to take in the park’s scenic beauty as they stroll. Shade trees along the path provide a cooling dose of relief on a hot summer day.

Gough Park

Easily accessible from Honeygo Boulevard in Perry Hall, the 17-acre Gough Park is a delightful recreational area for families in the Perry Hall and White Marsh communities. Athletic fields and ball diamonds are perfect for enjoying a game of baseball or soccer. Those who want a quick jog or stroll can find well-maintained paved walking paths.

Pavilions at Gough Park are excellent for hosting a family gathering or celebrations such as birthday parties. Public restroom facilities are also available for park guests.

Gunpowder Falls State Park

Created in 1959 to protect the Gunpowder River and the Big and Little Gunpowder Falls, Gunpowder Falls State Park is one of Maryland’s largest state parks. It has more than 18,000 acres that span Baltimore and Harford counties. Visitors can find more than 120 miles of multi-use trails, protected state wildlands, and fishing sites within the park. The park is so large that it’s divided into six areas, each offering specific amenities for park guests.

The Central Area is the oldest part of the park, encompassing the Big and Little Gunpowder Falls. Ideal for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, this area is also home to the Jerusalem Mill Historic Village. This site interprets the history of the 18th- and 19th-century Quaker settlement at Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville.

Honeygo Run Regional Park

With 206 acres, Honeygo Run Regional Park is one of the largest recreational facilities in northeast Baltimore County. Throughout the year, families and recreational organizations in the Perry Hall and White Marsh areas rely on Honeygo Run Regional Park to access first-rate indoor and outdoor recreational amenities. The following features represent some of the park’s offerings:

  • Two lighted baseball diamonds.
  • A 13,000-square-foot indoor recreation center with indoor multipurpose and pickleball courts.
  • A playground that is compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
  • A lighted roller hockey court.
  • Three athletic fields.
  • Pedestrian bridge over Honeygo Boulevard.
  • Paved walking paths through the park’s wooded areas.
  • Perry Paw Dog Park (see the section below).

Are you planning a special family celebration? Consider renting one of the two picnic pavilions, which hold a maximum of 60 guests. Reservations are taken from April 1 through Sept. 30; no reservations are required after the second weekend of October. Contact the Baltimore County Regional Facilities Office for more information.

Indian Rock Park

Located in nearby Nottingham, Indian Rock Park provides a pleasant respite for families from a busy day at school and work. You can easily access this 16.5-acre park from Interstate 95. There are plenty of open green spaces throughout the park that provide ideal places for picnicking. Bring a ball, bubbles, or your children’s favorite outdoor toys and spend time away from the screens as a family. 

Indian Rock Park offers access to the Indian Rock Northeast Trail. This 1.1-mile out-and-back trail near Perry Hall is ideal for those who enjoy hiking, running, and walking.

Perry Paw Dog Park

Discover a park that offers four-legged guests a tail-wagging good time. Perry Paw Dog Park, located within Honeygo Run Regional Park (see the section above), is a membership-only dog park supported by volunteers. Entry to the park is available by paying annual membership dues, which help fund park maintenance efforts. 

For 2023, annual membership dues are $30 for new member households with up to two dogs. To enter the park, all dogs must have a license and up-to-date rabies vaccination certification. Registered members receive an access card and dog identification tags.

Perry Paw Dog Park has two sections: a small-dog section for dogs weighing less than 35 pounds and a section for larger dogs weighing more than 35 pounds. Children younger than 12 aren’t permitted inside the dog park for safety reasons. Adults must accompany all children between ages 12 and 16.
